Leaving The Cove
The Cove, known locally as Windy Cove, is a gated community north west of Palm Springs. Built in 2007 the houses were finished, but never sold.
The entire area remains in a strange state. Rather than rot and decay, the desert heat and wind has preserved the houses, now frozen in time. Most intriguing of all is that these houses have never been lived in showing no evidence of a previous life.
Nestled at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains ridge the strong winds are constant. Coupled with the intense heat, its hard to imagine how anyone could live here comfortably, let alone play golf as was once suggested by urban planners. It seems that the cove housing project was doomed before it even began, but nestled inside one of the houses, the wind howling outside, I couldn’t help thinking how beautiful the view was, but it was a view that came at too big a price.
There is no evidence of a past life here. It is a place where nothing has been left behind.
