Return to the blue..

Family Dollar, Winter, Indiana 2021

Despite moving to a warmer climate, I have always enjoyed making work in the cold and the challenges that come with it. ‘The Doyle Blue’, a term I tried to bring to the small masses at one time, all started with a cold winters morning in the north of England. The cold dark winter nights of the north also made way for my night work which became the bulk of my photographic projects. Having recently spent an entire summer out in the desert making images through the night, it always felt strange to me that it was warm which although not unpleasant conditions to work in, there was never a sense of comfort returning to the car and putting the AC on full blast in the early hours and drinking iced water rather than a hot coffee.

Having experienced long hot summers and long cold winters, while neither are particularly comfortable to shoot in, the cold will always feel better..
