Blue Sky and Flowers.

Burnt Juniper Tree, Mojave, 2026

It has been a couple of years since I went out to an area of the Mojave I shot the majority of my Fridays Rainshaow project back in 2020-2022.

The Mojave is one of those deserts that keeps changing. The burnt Joshua Trees I once photographed after the Bobcat Fire were now gone, the area now covered perennial and invasive grasses, common after a fire. Not more than a mile from the area, a new fire had burned leaving in its wake charred Juniper Trees like the one above. The image made me think about the Fridays project and how every image I had photographed was either dead or dying, not to mention the numerous car graveyards. But as my old agent used to say; “No ones interested in a photograph of blue sky and flowers.”
